I'd like to get some Windows Server experience under my belt so I can move on in my career. I have several VMware ESXi 5 boxen here on premises, so I can set up and test just about anything. Can r/sysadmin provide me with some good links to some good how-to resources? A decent open-source ticketing system would be nice as well. I'd like a get a crash course on how to set up a proper network with it - Group Policy Administration, etc. I suck and Windows Server administration and know little about it. If I got hit by a bus, this place would be in trouble. This place was originally set up as an ad-hoc network - it's unorganized and an undocumented mess. I became the IT guy by default because I was the best with computers. I've been at my current job for over 10 years, and I started with this company on day one. I guess I'm more of a hardware guy - I learn what I need to keep things running. Set up internal DNS, connected a satellite office via VPN. I run my terminate my own CAT5e, maintain a firewall, manage outward facing services. I built and manage a 144TB iSCSI NAS server.
I'm an experienced admin, with many years under my belt.
